SNAPSHOTS: Flying to Guangzhou

IMG_0299Hey guys!

We officially made it to Guangzhou, China after almost 24 full hours of travel. The flight to Tokyo was almost 12 hours + 3 hour layover in Tokyo + 4 hour flight from Tokyo — Guangzhou + 1 hr drive from the airport to our hotel = 20 hours! Close enough.

Flying United was awesome. We were delirious from the start but watched a ton of movies and ate so much food I can’t even tell you. The eating officially began as soon as we stepped on the plane.

IMG_0210IMG_0252IMG_0212IMG_0213

There’s a lot of snackage going on here. And yes, it’s a weird tradition of mine to always bring cherry tomatoes on board. The dry air always makes me crave veggies.

Our first selfie of the trip. I need to buy a selfie stick stat.

This seemed like a great idea at the time.

Starting it off with some bubbles!

Fun not so fun story. Employee at the LAX airport does not get a gold star by making fully sexist remark to Clo and I as we were checking in.

Sucky male employee: So where are you headed to?

Me: Tokyo, Japan and then to Guangzhou.

Sucky male employee: Oh, you two girls must be headed there to go shopping for rich husbands! (winks grossly)

Moment of silence for that.

Chloe: Yeah, why else would two Asian girls ever travel to Asia right?

Sucky male employee gives confused look.

I’m glad that some people really have open minds to the world.

Here’s our reaction to above story.

IMG_0335

IMG_0217I tried to organize my little compartments (above)….but by the end they looked like picture (below) which was very reminiscent of back when Chloe and I had an apartment together. Girls have a lot of stuff.

IMG_0191IMG_0227

Touch down. Landed in Tokyo, Japan!!!!! This is me taking pictures in the bathroom. I was pretty excited about everything as soon as we landed including the public restrooms. Is that weird?
Processed with VSCOcam with c1 presetThis moment happened almost immediately out of the gate and I freaked out. I think I accidentally pushed some sweet looking Japanese girls out of the way just to capture this. Sumimasen!

IMG_0224

I was super fascinated and about to cry because EVERYTHING in the airport was my size!!! Even this mannequin was the same height as me which means…..I am officially sample size in Japan. Does that finally make me a model?

IMG_0223

TOTORO DISPLAY. ENOUGH SAID.

IMG_0332

Yes I will take a dozen boxes of mochi.

Everything here has a face on it. This now explains my obsession with small things with eyes. It’s just in my blood.IMG_0229

Pictured above is my first OFFICIAL meal in Asia ever! The United Club in the Tokyo Airport was awesome with unlimited bowls of soba, sushi and edamame. We completely outdid ourselves by having about 8 bowls of soba collectively. Great job Clo, we really worked as a team there.

I’m Going To Asia with My Girl Chloe Bennet!!!

You guys!!!!

Taken by Melly Lee

Taken by Melly Lee

So darn tootin’ excited to share with you all that I’m going to be in Asia for the next TWO WEEKS! My girl and former roomie Chloe Bennet, who you probably know as Skye from “Agents of Shield”, officially used her earthquake powers on me a couple weeks ago when she shattered my world by asking if I wanted to go to China with her. I promptly freaked the f out and said YES. DUH YES!!!! We decided to extend our trip and hit up Tokyo after since I am Japanese and have sadly never been to explore my roots. I have actually never been to Asia period. It works out perfect that we both get to see our cultures (Chloe’s half Chinese). It’s going to be crazyyyy.

This will be us for sure. Courtesy of giphy.com

Throughout the next two weeks, I am going to be posting on here our little adventures through Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Tokyo so check back often. I’ll be posting pictures of WonderCon (which Chloe will be at so come meet her!), our idiot like tendencies as our characters Mel and Gina (if you don’t know yet, get ready). and of course LOTS AND LOTS OF FOOOOOOOD. We plan on getting really plump off of ramen and sushi while we’re there so hopefully you recognize me when you get back. It’s not likely. I may have to adopt the nickname MSG-Maki.

Alright guys, I gotta go pack a life’s worth of clothes and shoes into one mid sized luggage, so wish me luck. I am really…really bad at packing. Really.

Peace and see you guys in ASIA!!!!!

It’s Bout to Get Real,

Ally

MY MALIBU ESSENTIALS

Malibu Essentials
I recently spent some time in Malibu staying at my aunt and uncle’s house in the hills overlooking PCH. It was such an incredible time. Malibu has it’s own unique character and way of life that I could seriously get used to living here one day permanently. Here are a few of my favorite things that I packed for my beach filled week!
xx, ally

MALIBU ESSENTIAL GUIDE

one piece swimsuit
I am so into one-pieces right now! They are a great piece to easily transition from the beach straight to a walk on the promenade. Just throw some cute jean shorts on over for an instant outfit!

one piece malibu

smashbox o-glosseasy read
A makeup artist on set recently used Smashbox’s O-GLOSS on my lips before a scene and I fell in love with the product. It makes your lips look clean, fresh, and with just the right amount of gloss to look sun kissed and summer-fied.
Whenever I go to the beach, I tote along a read that is easy and massively entertaining. Such is Emily Giffen’s novel “Something Blue.” SO MUCH FUN DRAMA!!!!! Definitely a great read if you’re looking to fall into a twisted sort of love story told from the POV of a rather unconventional narrator: the self-centered narcissist. Check out page one below and note Giffen’s lovable and fun writing style, mirroring a sort of stream of consciousness straight from the thoughts of a woman — it’s like she’s IN MY BRAIN! —-

Something Blue

bikiniEOS Lipbalm

Why bring one swimsuit when you can bring two?
So in love with the twisted bandeau tops of this season. Not only can you find them in all sorts of fun fabrics, I also happen to find them inherently flattering on most body types. The top can serve double purpose as a cute bra top under a tank as well!
Moving on to SPF. Although we got our gloss on, SPF is so incredibly important. So, while sunscreen is not featured on the list, I cannot stress enough how important it is. I’ve always been extra cautious ever since a friend told me that her dad- who was a stickler about putting sunscreen on everyday – got diagnosed with skin cancer on his EARS. It was the one place he never thought to protect! (He’s alright now, don’t worry.)
Ladies, skin cancer is never sexy so slather up – and don’t forget those lips and ears!

MAC Prep+Prime

Great little thing to bring along with you on a hot day. Mac’s Prep + Prime Powder works great over a face of makeup to create a silky finished look and help reduce those pesky pores. If I’m heading to the beach, I’ll usually just moisturize (with an SPF lotion of course) and then throw this on a bare face and head out the door. Helps keep you shine free throughout the day!

makeup bag

This floral makeup bag is the perfect size to serve as a pseudo purse for your day out at the beach. Because of its plastic lining, its safe around the water and sand. So next time, leave the purse at home and bring along a little goodie bag that’s light and no fuss.
You can never go wrong with a pair of Ray-Ban aviators. I have literally had these bad boys for about five years and they are still always in style.

hairbow sandals

I am so in love with this fun find from Aldo. Who says your feet can’t be absolutely adorable even at the beach?

That’s it! Love you guys. Comment below your favorite beach essentials and also if there’s any places in Malibu you’ve hit up that you know and love! (I def want to go back.) 🙂

The Top 20 Things About My Trip to Paris

There’s no real way to describe my time in Paris other than truly magical. As corny as it sounds, experiencing Paris really does fulfill every part of a girl’s wishes and dreams in some crazy otherworldly fantastical way. Although there are so many memories, here are my Top 20.

  1. The train ride from London to Paris interestingly enough proved to be one of the MOST memorable parts of the whole trip. We were so delirious we were cracking up the WHOLE WAY THERE for no apparent reason, much to the annoyance of our cabin partners.

2.  Train selfies

IMG_2208IMG_2212

3. This hilarious plate of train food. The most random plate of of food I’ve ever eaten. Coleslaw with shredded beef. Fruit compote and beets not one….but TWO ways! In block form and shredded. Because beets one way is never enough.

IMG_2213

4. You can drink espresso and eat madeleines at literally anytime of the day without feeling judged.

IMG_2233

5. The fact that there’s Chanel stores on nearly every other block like they’re Starbucks or something. NBD.

6.When this epic moment happened and I tried on my first pair of Louboutins. I’m pretty sure I was sweating and couldn’t really breathe. #BGM

7. Steak & Frites. The ultimate combination.

11. Madeleines.

12. Crazy Horse. This EPIC burlesque show originated in Paris in 1951. The girls were so insanely talented and their bodies were bangin’. I left with such a changed view on the beauty of women’s bodies and sexuality as a whole. Such a revelation. P.S. Beyonce’s “Partition” video was taken move for move from one of their routines.

13. This spontaneously hilarious moment when a Chinese couple was taking wedding photos in the middle of the street next to us. We’re probably going to pop up in their wedding album somewhere in Asia, and I’m honestly ok with that. Chinese wedding in Paris

14. Room service galore at the Ambassador Hotel. The fresh squeezed orange juice was a highlight.

SNAPSHOTS: LONDON TRAVELS ♥

I may not have been many places in my certified “good girl” life, but I’m callin’ it that London may be one of my favorite places ever for a very long time for 3 reasons.

  1. Every single person is so insanely friendly it actually makes me want to strive to be a better person.
  2. You get to drink out of a treasure chest. (explanation below)
  3. One of the few places where you can experience the feeling of being somewhere completely new and exciting without having complete culture shock due to language barrier. Colt and I collected all sorts of new terminology we love to annoy our friends back home with: flat vs. apartment, gettin’ punchy (a sort of aggressive partying), and mate!
Here’s a few pics from my days in Londontown.

Just arrived! Taken on the drive from the airport to the Grosvenor House hotel.

Definitely a highlight of the trip – dancing our FACES OFF at Mahiki. Clubbing in London is a whole new experience: it’s actually FUN! Here we are drinking champagne infused with tropical fruits out of a treasure chest. A TREASURE CHEST.

Victoria + albert museum

There’s just something about a day at the museum in a new country that really makes you feel like you’ve soaked up some of its true history and glory. You leave feeling more connected to the people, with a better understanding of who they are and how we can relate on one universally beautiful thing: art. Art comes in all cultures and is such a window into the soul of the people. Here’s some pics from our few hours at the Victoria and Albert Museum (or called the V&A for short) .

Off to London + Paris

It’s really true. I’m flying to London today. Pinch a girl because this can’t be real life. I think I’m stuck in a Nora Ephron film because this is far too beautiful of a story to be real life!

Trav took me to brunch at Aroma       before going to the airport!

May I first just start off by saying British Airways is really really great. The jet was huge; two stories and clean. They play classical music as you board which makes you feel half “Iggy Azelea fancy” and half “like you’re having a spa day with the “Bridesmaids” girls (without the shitting moment) moment”. Ladies in perfectly tailored skirts and hats are there to greet you and provide you with enough beverages to do away with the hangover of a newly 21 year old frat boy. Water, soda, coffee, then tea, and soda. Start all over again with mini wine bottles. Juice. Repeat all until you K.O. from overhydration. At one time I think I had five full drinks on my teetering baby tray. Hour 6 they bring baskets filled with fudgesicles. I feel like I’m adult trick or treating…the rules stay the same; you take one from the basket. Best part is: you don’t have to move at all (lazy grownups!).

-Everyone has British accents which makes everything more relaxing and pleasant. Although an elderly British lady behind me keeps yelling for things which seems to be irritatingly cancelling out my point.

A good ale never hurt nobody.

At the moment I’m having trouble popping my eardrums due to the altitude but beyond that I’m about 5 hours into the flight and doing superb.
A few things:
-Watched “Her” by Spike Jones. Incredible film. Highly recommend although AGAIN I’m probably one of the last people to see this award winning highly popular film. Last minute Joe. Or would it be last minute Jane?
Loved ScarJoe’s line: “The past is just a story we tell ourselves.”
Oh and Trav if you’re reading this there’s a little white creature character that I know you will say that I remind you of.
– “Something Blue” by Emily Giffin and “Chocolat” by Joanne Harris are my travel buds. Thought they seemed fitting as one takes place in London and the other in France, respectively.

They pose ever so nicely.

– Also just finished “That Awkward Moment”. Yes, that one with Zac Efron and the kid from The Wire. Ended up being cute but took me a bit to get into. I always like to watch these “dude comedies” seeing as I grew up as the only girl with two older brothers. It provides a weird sense of comfort to watch guy humor parlay into some story about a playa not playin no more. The girl that won him over and changed him for good. That old song and dance. Unfortunately, it felt like the three guys were trying super hard to create that raunchy guy banter and (for me) it just came across a little forced. But I still enjoyed it.
– BTW: LAX got some sort of crazy refurbishment (is that a word-ishment?). My gate was literally in the middle of some freakishly beautiful new mall with mostly all duty free shops. Yay now you can get your Ferragamos and Gucci bags for only 2 Gs instead of the regular 5 (note my sarcasm)!
A huge line of about 50 people built up by the gate and I thought we were boarding early only to discover that it was all the shoppers picking up their duty free items they had bought. I get it now. Show up early and pack light so you can shop at the Mall of America located centrally right smack dab in the middle of the airport. Genius! The guy who thought of that must be sittin real pretty right about now McDuck style.
Sitting at my gate admiring       couture from a safe distance.

Uh, oh the pretty ladies in hats are comin’ round again with mini bottles of red wine gotta go. Xo
P.S. Will blog again when I have wifi.
P.P.S. Colton really is a fairy Goldman. (My autocorrect just turned godman into Goldman and I thought it way too fitting to even correct it.)
